Lots of people decide to make changes to their diet in the New Year and January is often the peak month for trying new diets or ways of eating. After all the meat-based dishes most of us indulge in at Christmas, the concept of going veggie or even going vegan in January can be really appealing, especially as it has a wholesome vibe to it.
However, when it comes down to it and you've been vegan for a couple of weeks, you might find you're running out of ideas of what to eat. When you're used to cooking with meat and dairy products, the concept of sticking strictly to vegan ingredients can feel restrictive.
Don't worry though, help and inspiration is at hand from the cafes and restaurants of Perth which have plenty of delicious vegan dishes for you to try.
1. Koshari - Koshari Zone
First time trying Koshari and my mind is blown! 😍😍😍 Rice, pasta, lentils, chickpeas and crispy fried onions doused with a spicy red sauce. This particular shop also has the option of adding chicken as a topping. The combination is so delicious!
Koshari is a vegan dish that's packed full of flavour. It's a mix of rice, pasta, and lentils that is topped with chickpeas as well as a homemade tomato and onion sauce. Regular Koshari is one of the most popular items on the Koshari Zone menu but you can also supersize it to the Jumbo Koshari or add a salad and a bottle of water by ordering the Koshari combo.
2. Vegan Buddha Bowl - Tarts Cafe
The Vegan Buddha Bowl at Tarts Cafe is a great healthy option for lunch that can be delivered to your desk. In the bowl, there's quinoa, mushrooms, roast sweet potatoes, wilted spinach, avocado and crispy spiced chickpeas. To bring all the flavours together, there's a roasted red bell pepper sauce.
3. Vegan Pizza - Peace'za
At Peace'za, they specialise in producing handmade plant-based pizzas - you surely can't get more vegan than that! from their wide choice of different pizzas, our favourite is the Roasted Veg which has zucchini, eggplant, capsicum, onion, mushroom, and notzarella - a vegan version of mozzarella. And, if you're looking for an alternative vegan pizza, check out the one available at the Windsor Hotel Bar & Restaurant. Its toppings include vegan cheese, rocket, olives, and artichoke.
