Summer is here, the surfies are on the beach and we're all having a great time barbecuing shrimp - so say the rest of the world. In reality, an Aussie summer is hot, and it can be difficult to find a takeaway which doesn't make you feel as though you're melting Thai cuisine is often heralded for its lightness compared with other popular cuisines, and when you fancy a snack, Thai spring rolls can perk you right up without making you feel sleepy. Here are our favourite summer spring rolls, to leave you feeling perky.
1. Thai Siam - Chicken and Crab Meat Spring Rolls
It's no secret that Brisbane has so many great Thai restaurants, and Thai Siam is no exception. The lightness of the chicken and crab make this a perfect spring roll for summer, and the meatiness of the chicken perfectly complements the sweetness of the crab. As these are Thai rolls, the pastry is light and crispy, so you won't have to worry about needing to spend the afternoon napping indoors. If you're a fan of authentic Thai, you'll want to check out Thai Siam.
2. The Hub's Wok - Vegan Spring Roll
Based in Spring Hill, The Hub's Wok offer a mouth-watering mixture of Chinese and Thai food. They sell an array of tasty Spring Rolls, however, their main event has to be their Vegan Spring Rolls. It is often the case that appetizers are a tricky situation for vegans in Asian restaurants, however, The Hub's Wok seeks to change this. Their Vegan Spring Rolls are loaded with vegetables and silken tofu and don't contain any egg at all. They also come with a delicious little dipping sauce for extra flavour.
3. Phat Elephant - Spring Rolls
In a nutshell, Phat Elephant serve up brightly coloured Thai street food. Alongside their spring roll selection and signature vegetarian Drunken Noodles, they also make incredibly refreshingly fruity cocktails. Their spring rolls are a classic mix of spiced shredded vegetables, encased in a crispy deep fried pancake. Phat Elephant's attention to authenticity means that you're getting simple dishes, cooked the way that they should be without any nasty additives.
4. Full Moon Bar and Restaurant - Viet Crab Spring Rolls
Serving up some of the very best Pan-Asian cuisine in Queensland, Full Moon make Bangkok Street food with a twist. Their menu features everything from Wagyu beef to ocean catches, and Full Moon wouldn't be a street food restaurant without serving a creamy Panang curry. The Viet Crab spring rolls are stuffed with fresh crab before being rolled up and deep fried until golden and crispy. The net batter is much lighter than the usual spring roll batter, making it a perfect summer choice.
5. Thai Chada - Crab, Prawn and Taro Net Roll
The Thai Chada menu is full of everyone's Thai favourites, including taro. If you've never had taro before, you should definitely try the Crab, Prawn and Taro Net roll. The taro vegetable has been dubbed 'potato's ugly cousin', but don't be fooled. It tastes a little like water chestnuts, making it a perfect pairing for the crab and prawn in the net roll. As with the Full Moon net roll, this one is perfect for summer, as it is light and crispy, and will leave you skipping home.
