Now, there's a question. Melbourne is renowned for being the foodie capital of Australia, so if you think you know good pizza, it might be time to rethink that until you've sampled a few more places here!
As a pizza and gnocchi bar, you'll find a whole host of delicious Italian cuisine at 48h. Their gourmet options allow for strictly no changes, but you won't want to change them anyway. That mantra especially applies to the 48h special - marinated salmon, organic red onion, Taggiasche olives, 26 Avruga caviar, and goats' cheese, all finished off with a drizzle of garlic-infused oil. There's also calzone, for those who love a folded pizza - this one comes with ham, mushroom, tomato sauce, parmigiano and buffalo mozzarela
If you've still got a creative itch that you simply cannot shake, there's space for you, too. The restaurant offers a pizza-making masterclass, so you can attempt to make such delicious pizzas at home.
Let's face it - it's pizza in Brunswick, it was never going to be bad. Situated in the heart of the suburb, 400 Gradi has earned its rightful place as a hot contender for some of the best pizza around. Vegetarians aren't an afterthought here, although some confusing names ("Marinara", featuring absolutely no seafood), mean that the menu is always worth a second glance. Then you have "Frutti di Mare", which absolutely does, and heaps of other options with both tomato and white sauces, to quite literally cover all bases.
Seriously, we want to try everything... and you will, too. "Patate" comes topped with fior di latte, baked potato, rosemary, red onion, mild salami, and san marzano tomatoes, which is an absolute carb-fest but so, so worth it. Then you've got "Funghi", which is a delight for veggies; with buffalo taleggio, fior di latte, sauteed field mushrooms, and finished with a sprinkling of thyme. The use of different cheeses and herbs helps really make them stand out.
St Kilda is super hip, so it makes sense that the pizza there is, too. All of these delicious pizzas will make you re-evaluate your life (or at the very least, the pizza you consume). With tasty, unique creations such as saganaki and rosemary-roasted potato on a garlic base, or vegetarian-friendly roasted pumpkin, feta and red onion, rocket and napoli sauce - you're guaranteed to find something to suit.
Melbourne's Grosvenor Hotel is absolutely iconic, and their wood-fired pizzas do not let that reputation down. From the basics like garlic or herb, through to creations like the "Buffalina", featuring buffalo mozzarella and San Daniele prosciutto; you'll surely find something for you. That's not all they've got to offer either - there are pastas like truffled mac & cheese, and even a children's corner complete with mini pizzas packed full of taste, just like the grown-up contemporaries.
