We Aussies love the classic meat pie so much that we recently voted them the nation's favourite fast food – with an estimated 260 million put away by us each year. And with places like Katzy's, Piefection, Pure Pie and Tabet's Bakery, can you really blame us?
There's no limit to what you can put inside a pie. Here are four of our favourite twists on the beef and ale original.
Braised Beef, Guinness & Cheddar, Pure Pie
Today I am helping @fi_bird with a winter story about pies by driving around Melbourne tasting pies together... This one is from #PurePie in Bay St Port Melbourne and the flaky pastry blew my mind. The things you do for mates, right? 👼 Follow the rest of this ep. of #edibleadventures live on my #SnapchatStory: aliceinframes 👻 #topbloke #hungryJAPs #pieforaging #carbiacarrest
We'll start off simple. If you don't want to stray too far from the beaten path, you can't go wrong with Melbourne's own Pure Pie. We love the Braised Beef, Guinness & Cheddar for a proper hearty feast.
Tender beef is packed in with gooey cheddar cheese and a glug of Guinness for a taste of Ireland. Pie is literally the name of the game here, so you know you're guaranteed the real deal.

Jack Daniels BBQ Pork Ribs, Piefection
If you want some sass with your meat, nothing can beat Piefection's Jack Daniels BBQ Pork Ribs. This culinary creation is a pie topped with ribs. Now we think it's hard to beat this. Your classic pie is topped with slow-cooked St. Louis style barbecue ribs, smothered with Piefection's own secret BBQ sauce.
And the good news doesn't stop there – this delight comes in a family-sized form too, with a whole 1.3kg of pie-y goodness.

Haloumi Pie, Tabet's Bakery
At Tabet's vegetarians can get in on the pie fun. This Lebanese bakery stuff most of their pies with cheese and vegetables, and cheesy pies are something we can get behind.
Choose from cheese and olive, cheese and vegetables and feta and spinach, along with the more exotic Shanklish pie, a Syrian and Lebanese blue cheese speciality. We especially love the Haloumi Pie for something different in your pastry case.

Curry & Vegetable Pie, Katzy's
At Katzy's, you'll find all your classics, as well as some welcome unknowns. Though their Beef Pie knocks it out of the park every time, we love their Curry & Vegetable version too. This little beauty brings together all the good things about two different cuisines – bringing the spice from Indian and pie magic itself from British.
If you're a pie-junkie like us, you'll love the way this subtly spicy combination meets tender, flaky pastry for a real parcel of culinary fun.
Whether it's filo, short crust or puff, pastry is the one for us. Indulge in your pie cravings when you order through Deliveroo.
